A Chinese antique storage chest from Hangzhou, China, crafted from aromatic camphor wood approximately 80 years ago. The exterior has been carefully refinished in an antique red lacquer, while the interior has been left in its natural wood tone to preserve the distinctive grain and character of the camphor wood.
The lift-up lid opens to a spacious interior, making the chest practical for storing blankets, linens, cushions, books, or other household items. Its compact proportions also allow it to be used as a low coffee table, bedside storage, or decorative trunk at the foot of a bed.
The aged red finish, original metal hardware, and natural marks developed over time give this piece the character expected from authentic Chinese antique furniture.
