Originating from Zhejiang, China, this 60-year-old table screen is carved from aged fir wood and features an intricate, symbolic centerpiece rooted in Buddhist and Chinese tradition.

The central carving portrays a child attendant of Guanyin Bodhisattva holding a Ruyi scepter — an auspicious symbol representing “as you wish” or wish fulfillment. The child embodies innocence, purity, and joy, while the Ruyi (如意) conveys the blessing of prosperity, success, and harmony. In traditional belief, such figures are celestial messengers who carry the compassionate intent of Guanyin to bless and protect the household.

Delicate openwork scrolls in a rich red lacquer surround the figure, highlighting the fine craftsmanship and spiritual elegance of the piece. The base frame also features a secondary carved panel, adding balance and sophistication.
