This pair of horseshoe-back folding chairs, made to make
it easier to carry by having the legs of the folding chair cross
over in the shape of an X and secured with metal pivots.
They were used at the writing desk, or formally receiving
visitors and even possible they were dragged in the garden
for a game of chess. They are also frequently depicted in
ancestral portraits.
